The end of the wire (40) of an electric coil (14) is soldered to a soldering tag (16) of the electric coil (14) by immersion in a soldering bath (10). After the soldering tag (16) is withdrawn from the soldering bath (10), a compressed-air jet (36) is directed through a slit nozzle (20) onto the separating point between the soldering tag (16) and the liquid solder (24) in order to cut through the bridge (42) of soldering tin developing during the withdrawal. The compressed-air jet (36) is directed right passed the bottom edge of the soldering tag (16) and is sharply focussed. It thus acts like a cutting-off device which ensures a smooth bottom edge of the soldered soldering tag (16) and thus avoids the formation of peaks of soldering tin. <IMAGE>
