PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium suitable for high density recording and high in durability, by enhancing dispersion stability of a magnetic coating material using a magnetic powder adjusted to a specified water content. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic coating material is prepd. by using, e.g., gamma-Fe2O3, Co-contg. gamma-Fe2O3 or the like magnetic powder adjusted to 0.5-1.5% water content, stearic acid, lecithin, or the like as a dispersant, polyester, polyurethane, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, or the like resins as a binder, and necessary additives such as carbon black. The obtained magnetic tape is raised in dispersant adsorptivity, dispersed uniformly, raised in binding force with a binder, in durability, and in squareness by specifying its water content. |
