1493096 Reactivating charcoal and alumina BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 14 June 1976 [14 June 1975] 24483/76 Heading ClA [Also in Divisions F4 and Bl] Spent activated charcoal of grain size 1À5-2 mm. used in the treatment of wood pulp together with alumina of grain size 1À5-2À5 mm., is reactivated in a fluidized bed provided with weirs 2, 3, 4 by a stream of oxygen free combustion gases containing 55% by volume of water vapour at an initial temperature of 1100‹ C. The gases from the lower bed are mixed with air to reduce the temperature from 800-600‹C. and flow through an upper fluidized bed 7 to re-activate the alumina. Spent activated charcoal from the purification of coke works waste water of grain size 1À5-2À0 mm., and of grain size 0À5-0À8 mm. is purified in two side-by-side fluidized beds (Figs. 3 and 6) fed from a common combustion chamber with oxygen free gases at a temperature of 1100‹ C., the proportion flowing through each bed being determined by their flow areas.
|
