A mat made of polyvinyl acetate, fillers and additives which can be matched to the shape of a backing plate to be insulated and can be adhesively bonded thereto has both good airborne sound-insulating properties and good structure-borne sound-reducing properties if the mat (2) contains at least 50% by weight of inorganic, preferably pulverulent inorganic fillers, a density of at least 2000 kgm<-3>, preferably 2400 kgm<-3>, and a loss factor d2 of about 1.0, and if a total loss factor dtot of about 0.25 is achieved for the coating of, for example, 1 mm steel sheeting as the backing plate (1).
