With the variable fuel tank extension it is intended to offer the motorcyclist a system which enables him to change quickly between different tank capacities. This is achieved by additional tanks of various sizes which can be slid on and tightly screwed to the permanently installed fuel tank. At the front, the additional tank is slid by means of a rail onto a retaining tube mounted on the permanent tank, then at the top of the additional tank a flap is opened, through which the connecting piece between the two tanks can be reached and screwed tight. Sealing rings on the connecting piece ensure that no fuel runs away between the two tanks. A layer of hard rubber or other flexible material attached to the base of the additional tank ensures that it is securely seated. When the additional tank is securely attached, the flap can be closed and the tank lid can be screwed into the screw thread incorporated in the latter. A further retaining mechanism, for example a further tube, can also be attached to the rear of the permanent fuel tank, around which mechanism a lockable claw attached to the additional tank is closed.
