Pharm. prepn. contains an encapsulated active substance (I) with 40-99%, by wt. of the total prepn., of a carbohydrate (II) and/or carbohydrated-related cpd. (III).S With the prepn. there is controlled release of (I) and any unpleasant taste that it has is masked, and the stability of (I) is increased. (I) includes a wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic agents for humans and animals, esp. bacamoicillin and theophylline. Pref. the prepn. contains 60-70% (II) or (III). Suitably (II) is sucrose, glucose or fructose, and (III) is a polyhydroxy cpd. or polyhydroxy-polyether, esp. sorbitol. The prepn. may be in the form of a dry powder or an aq. soln. ready for use. |
