PREPARATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURE REACTIVE SUBSTANCE

PURPOSE:To reduce electric power for preparing CaC2 and to recover a byproduct combustible gas, by supplying a combustible substance such as a coke powder and an oxygen-containing gas to the specific range around the electrode of a hermetically closed electric furnace for preparing CaC2. CONSTITUTION:In a hermetically closed electric furnace 15 for preparing CaC2 having three graphite electrodes 7, six water cooled lances 8 are inserted so as to bring the leading ends thereof to an unreacted stock material layer for CaC2 in a part encircled by a semi-sphere wherein the cross point P of an electrode center line X-X and a furnace bottom 20 is a center and the distance R1 with the leading end of the electrode is a radius and a semi-sphere having a radius r3 1.5times of the radius r1. A combustible substance such as a coke powder and an oxygen-containing gas such as air are mixed in a ratio of a chemical equivalent + or -25% generating imperfect combustion to form a mixture which is in turn injected from the lances 8 at a speed of 10m/sec. The unreacted stock material is heated by the combustion heat of the coke powder to reduce an electric power consumption unit for preparing CaC2 and to recover a combustible gas based on CO.
