The plug which has an insulating handle (1') and a conductive plug tip (2') is arranged in a plastic housing (3'). The plug can be displaced in the housing (3') in the direction of the axis of the plug tip (2'). A spring (4') forces it into a rest position in which all the exposed parts of the plug are surrounded by the housing (3') and cannot inadvertently be touched. In order to insert the plug tip (2') into a socket, the plug can be pushed against the effect of the spring (4') into an operating position in which the plug tip (2') protrudes out of the housing (3'), through a front housing opening (5'). <IMAGE>
