Shears for severing any type of material have a stand accommodating a fixed blade and a guide for a cutter slide carrying a movable blade. In order to reduce the cost of manufacturing the shears, the actual machine stand is designed as a cylinder and guide, in which cylinder the piston can be moved as cutter slide. The stand and piston each have concentric apertures suitable for passing through the material to be cut.
