PURPOSE:To provide the titled apparatus which operates a clutch for a hydraulic torque converter in response to a vehicle-speed signal higher than a prescribed vehicle speed and is designed to prevent degradation of the engine performance by interrupting said vehicle-speed signal when the temperature of engine or transmission is lower than a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A transmission for a vehicle shown in the drawing consists of a torque converter 4 incorporating therein a clutch 19 and a gear type auxiliary transmission (only its driving shaft is shown by a numeral 5a) and transmits rotation of a crank shaft 1a to driving wheels. The clutch 19 is coupled when oil is discharged from an oil chamber 20 formed between a clutch disk 19a and an input case 14 and the clutch disk 19a is urged into frictional contact with the input case 14 by the internal pressure of an inner space 16. Here, supply and discharging of oil to and from the oil chamber 20 are controlled by a control valve 21 which is operated by a vehicle-speed signal corresponding to the vehicle speed. The vehicle-speed signal is interrupted by closing a solenoid valve 29 of an interrupting means 28 when the engine temperature is lower than a prescribed value and a temperature-sensitive switch 31 is turned OFF. |
