PURPOSE:To manufacture an Al alloy plate having no defective white ear by hot rolling an Al alloy contg. Mg and by cooling the resulting plate to ordinary temp. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy contg. 0.1-5.0% Mg is hot rolled. The resulting plate is cooled to ordinary temp. in a nonoxidizing atmosphere of N2 or other inert gas having <=0 deg.C dew point. The cooling may be carried out in a nonoxidizing atmosphere under a reduced pressure of <=10<-2>Torr. By this method, the formation of a defective white ear is perfectly prevented, so the quality of the product can be maintained and the productivity can be improved.
