PURPOSE:To lessen power loss in a fluid torque converter and enhance the rate of fuel consumption by performing power transmission through a by-pass instead of the torque converter in other positions than the first and backward positions. CONSTITUTION:When the change gear is in the first or backward position, power transmission is made through a fluid torque converter 5, so that smooth starting is obtained without requiring delicate clutching operation. In the other positions, power transmission is made through a by-pass instead of the torque converter 5, so that power loss in the torque converter 5 will reduce. While, in particular, a clutch 10 to couple the pump impeller 6 of torque converter 5 with the internal-combustion engine 100 is in disengagement and the driven gear 31 for first speed is decoupled from the driven gear shaft 4, no power is transmitted to the torque converter 5, so that power loss in this torque converter 5 can be nullified substantially. |
