PURPOSE:To obtain a display element having fast responsiveness and high stability of picture in an element which performs displaying by generating vapor bubbles in a liquid layer by heating by disposing heating elements for the purpose of bubbling and a heating element for preheating the same to the extent of not bubbling the same via the liquid layer. CONSTITUTION:Bubble generating elements 4' are formed of thin films 4'a, 4'b, 4'c of transparent heating resistors on a transparent substrate 3 with a colored or opaque liquid layer 1 in-between. On the other hand, a thin film 4'b' of a transparent heating resistor which heats beforehand the layer 1 to the extent of not bubbling is provided over the entire surface on the layer 1 side of a transparent protective plate 2. The desired elements 4'a, 4'b are heated by the electric current from a driving circuit 6a for the bubble generating elements to generate bubbles 5a, 5b, by which the desired displaying is accomplished. Since the layer 11 is beforehand heated, the bubbles are formed quickly, the display device having fast responsiveness is obtained and the picture quality is improved. |
