PURPOSE:To provide a friction material containing as binder a phenolic resin modified with an aromatic hydrocarbon resin and a triazine compd. and having a high friction coefficient, excellent resistance to fading and improved wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:A base material is impregnated with a binder consisting of a phenolic resin modified with an aromatic hydrocarbon resin and a triazine compd. After drying, the material is rolled up and is formed into shape, followed by forming under heat and pressure, burning and polishing to produce the friction material. The aromatic hydrocarbon resin which has reacted with the phenol nucleus has a structure consisting of benzene rings (or alkylbenzene rings) and methylene bonds and exhibits excellent heat resistance. In addition, the resin itself acts as a substituent which has a high steric hindrance effect to relax the three-dimensional cured structure of the phenolic resin and impart flexibiliy to the resin. |
