PURPOSE:To prevent the environmental pollution, and to suppress the heat loss and obtain carbon fibers, by dividing a waste gas from a heat-treating apparatus for producing the carbon fibers into two portions, decomposing one of the portions directly in the presence of an oxidation catalyst, mixing both, and circulating the mixture for reuse. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic type fibers 1 are continuously fed to a heat-treating chamber 2 and heat-treated, and a waste gas discharged from the heat-treating cahmber 2 is divided into two portions by adjusting the opening of a damper 4. One of the portions is passed through a flow path (B) without thermal decomposition, and the other is passed through a flow path (A), heated in a heater 6, decomposed in the presence of an oxidation catalyst in a decomposition treating chamber 7 and then joined with the waste gas flowing in the flow path (B) at a joining point (C). The resultant mixture is then passed through a heater 6' to form hot air at a high temperature, fed to the heat-treating chamber 2 and circulated for reuse. Thus, the thermal energy loss is remarkably reduced to give the aimed carbon fibers. |
