For the sub-synchronous lowering mode of a three-phase asynchronous motor for a lifting apparatus, the phases (U-X, V-Y, W-Z) of the stator winding (ST) are connected in star at the start and end side, and the star point (I) on the end side is connected via rectifier valves (V1, V2) to two network phases (R, T), the star point (II) on the start side being connected, if necessary via a stator bias resistor (RV), to the third network phase, so that the interlinked, rectified network voltage, which produces a pulsating, stationary DC field having three times the number of poles is connected to the stator winding. <IMAGE>
