Electrical discharge lamp

The discharge lamp having a U-tube-shaped discharge vessel is provided on the inner enveloping surface over the entire length with a starting aid which consists of a wire which rests closely against the vessel wall and forms a loop on the inside of the U-bend to compensate for expansion. Within the U-bend, the starting aid essentially describes a circle whose external diameter corresponds to the internal distance between the straight limbs of the discharge vessel. The loop preferably consists of 1.5 turns. The starting wire is an iron-chromium-aluminium alloy and has a long-term operating temperature of 1260 DEG C. The starting aid is particularly suitable for pulse-operated discharge flash tubes, and those which can be highly loaded, which are used in the individual and serial flash mode.
