PURPOSE:To obtain metallic powder of a low oxygen level by providing a crucible freely swivelably in a cacuum chamber, providing an electrode consisting of a base material so as to face the opening part of the crucible and generating arc discharge between the crucible and the electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 3 consisting of a base material is provided in a vacuum chamber 1 apart from a crucible 2 by the distance equal to the bore of an opening 2a. After the inside of the chamber 1 is evacuated with an evacuation device 15, gaseous Ar or the like is fed into said chamber and an arc power source 8 is turned on. Arc discharge is generated between the crucible 2 and the electrode 3, by which the electrode 3 is melted and is accumulated as a molten ingot 14 in the crucible 3. When the liquid level of a molten pool 14a arrives at the top level of the crucible 3, the crucible 3 is rotated by an electric motor 5. The molten base material in the pool 14a is scattered in a centrifugal direction by the rotation and is cooled by the collector 13 in the chamber 1 when said material contacts therewith. The cooled material solidifies to a granular shape. |
