<p>1534638 Electro-plating conductive plastics compositions with group VIII metal and chromium INCO EUROPE Ltd 21 Oct 1977 [26 Oct 1976] 43955/77 Addition to 1480522 Heading C7B A surface of composition comprising C black, S or S- containing compound, and an organic polymer that can chemically bond with the S (compound), is electro-plated first with a Group VIII metal (Fe, Co, Ni or Pt group metal) or alloy and finally with Cr as in the parent invention, wherein the Group VIII metal or alloy coating is covered with a metallic barrier layer impermeable to H up to 100‹C, e.g. with Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Sn, Pb, Bi, Sb and/or Al by electro-deposition, vapour deposition (for Al) or thermal decomposition (for Sb) and optionally electro-plated with Ni prior to electro-plating with Cr. Prior to electro-plating with the Group VIII metal or alloy, the moulded or compounded composition suface may be treated to destroy any unstable free radicals by standing in air followed by flame treatment, with an oxidizing acid, ozonization in an electrical discharge or heating below melting.</p> |
