PURPOSE:To improve the absorption efficiency of collision energy by constituting buffering members that are incorporated in the space enclosed by an reinforcing member and a face member of a plural numbers of mutually independently overlapped buffering elements. CONSTITUTION:A shock absorbing bumper consists of a reinforcing member with a flat section 1a, an almost cross-sectionally U-shaped face member 2 mounted on the reinforcing member, and a buffering material 3 that is incorporated in the space enclosed by the former two. In this case, the buffering member 3 is constituted of layered buffering elements 4 that are extended in the car width direction. Each of the buffering elements 4 is laminated in the bumper thickness L direction and the width of each of the buffering elements 4 is speciefied slightly maller than the width D of the bumper. Besides, when the bumper is mounted on a car, each of contact surfaces 5A and 5B located in the vertical direction of the face member 2 and buffering member 3 and each of the contact surfaces 5C between each of the mutually overlapped buffering elements 4 are not made to adhere to each other. |
