In the ribbon-folding mechanism, an endless ribbon(3) folded in a case(6) is moved by a pair of feed rolls(4) out of the case, past a printing station where it passes between a type belt and the paper to be typed. The typing is effected by hammers and then the ribbon moves back into the case. The line of contact(17) of the feed rolls(4) lies at an intermediate point along the longitudinal axis(18) of the ribbon case and thr ribbon case side(6b) facing the side(13) of the ribbon, which faces the paper at the printing station and is smoother than the opposite side of the ribbon after long use.
