The invention relates to a narrow-gap welding head for inert-gas metal-arc welding. It consists of an oscillating, water-cooled nozzle holder with wire-guide nozzle, an oscillation drive with position transmitter, and a sword-like gas shield for covering the welding melt. According to the invention, the nozzle holder is composed of a contact tube (1), an envelope tube (2), a nozzle receiver (23) and a water-connection piece (27). For direct water cooling, passages (24, 25) are provided between the contact tube (1) and the envelope tube (2). The supply and return (11, 12) for the cooling water is effected via a water-connection block (3) and a water-connection piece (27). An indication (28) is provided on the water-connection piece (27) for the positioning between oscillation drive (14, 15, 17, 18) and wire-guide nozzle (4). The wire-guide nozzle (4) is screwed into the nozzle receiver (23) at a preset angle alpha of between 3 DEG and 15 DEG . The gas shield (5) encloses the nozzle holder (1, 2, 23, 27) all round over the entire length plunging into the weld groove. Furthermore, the gas shield (5) is provided with bores (7) for receiving the inert gas. The gas shield (5) is electrically insulated from the nozzle holder (1, 2, 23, 27) and from the gearbox (16). <IMAGE>
