<p>The cone friction clutch is partic. for the reverse gear-box of a marine propulsion engine. An ahead gear turns freely on a main shaft and has a clutch face on one side. An astern gear also turns freely on the shaft, having a clutch face towards that of the ahead gear. A driving gear meshing with both turns them in opposite directions, while a clutch sleeve slides on the shaft between them, having mating clutch faces at opposite ends also an external peripheral groove between these faces. A selector engages in the groove and has a vibrator operated as necessary to free the clutch faces from each other.</p> |
