A sunshade device for use with a baby backpack includes a first mounting bracket (18) and a second mounting bracket (18') connected to the backpack frame. A U-shaped rear shade support (21) includes a rear bight portion (22) extending upwardly from the backpack having one end coupled to the first mounting bracket (18) and an opposite end coupled to the second mounting bracket (18'). A U-shaped front shade support (23) having a front bight portion (25) is similarly connected. The front shade support (23) is movable between a closed position, nested with the rear shade support (21), and a opened position, extending forwardly of the rear shade support (21). A flexible, sheet-like sunshade (26) is mounted to the front and rear shade supports. In the open position, the sunshade (26) extends vertically over the baby while in the closed position, the sunshade can be moved rearwardly of the baby to enable easy ingress and egress.
