The drive device has an eccentric drive containing an eccentric (15) which is arranged on a rotating eccentric disc (16) and on which a connecting member (14) is articulated. The latter is itself connected in an articulated manner to an actuating rocker (11) moving a lever (9) which carries a knitting needle (8) on a holder (7). To vary the curve of movement of the knitting needle (8), the spacing a of the point of engagement of the connecting member (14) on the actuating rocker (11) can be varied between positions +III and -III, in that a corresponding pivot pin (13) of the connecting member (14) is inserted into various holes of the row of holes (12). A further variation in the curve of movement is possible by varying the eccentricity e of the eccentric (15) on the eccentric disc (16). <IMAGE>
