<p>NEW MATERIAL:12beta-Hydroxypregna-1,4-dien-3-one-20alpha-carbaldehyde of formula I . USE:Useful as a synthetic raw material of corticoid steroid such as prednisolone, etc. useful as an antiphlogistic agent. PROCESS:The compound of formula I can be prepared by culturing a bacterial strain capable of producing 12beta-hydroxypregna-1,4-dien-3-one-20alpha-carbaldehyde using the deoxycholic acid of formula II (R is H, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal) and/or its salt as a substrate and belonging to Alcaligenes genus [e.g. Alcaligenes faecalis D4020-K15 (FERM-P No.204) which is a mutant of Alcaligenes faecalis D4020 (FERM-P No.182)] in a medium containing the compound of formula II.</p> |
