According to the invention, a continuous and exact determination of the temperature in the reactor of a coal gasification plant with liquid slag-tapping is effected in such a way that the reactor wall, having water cooling or oil cooling known per se, is provided with a defined water circulation independent of the reactor temperature and a defined water inlet temperature independent of the reactor temperature, and the water outlet temperature is measured.
