A machine for insulating electrical conductors (2) consists of a feed device (1), a plurality of glass fibre encompassing machines (6), a plurality of enamel impregnation devices (4, 9, 10), a plurality of drying ovens (5, 11), deflection wheels (13, 14) which effect multiple transportation of the conductors through some of the drying ovens (11), a drive device (15) and a coiling device (25) for the complete conductor. The opening of the drying ovens, which is required when the machine is stationary, leads to shrinkage of the conductor, which is compensated for by displacement of some of the deflection wheels. A buffer device (31) acts on the axis (12) of these displaceable deflection wheels (13). The feed device is blocked during the opening of the drying ovens. Before further operation of the machine, the displaced deflection wheels are moved back to their original position again. For this purpose, the rotation direction of the drive device is reversed. The conductor material required for this purpose is obtained by rotating the coiling device backwards. <IMAGE>
