PURPOSE:To improve switching characteristics and to reduce the area of a semiconductor integrated circuit by dividing an internal data bus into pulural parts, coupling those buses through a multidirectional information transfer means for mutual signal transfer, and providing a holding means for holding information on the divided buses. CONSTITUTION:Bidirectional bus drivers S1 and S2 are provided between divided internal data buses 12 and 17. The S1 performs signal transfer from the bus 12 to the bus 17 and the S2 performs signal transfer from the bus 17 to the bus 12. Those buses 12 and 17 are provided with signal holding means H1 and H2 to prevent the data buses from being held at some intermediate potential levels other than ''H'' and ''L'' when neither of the data buses is used. Consequently, switching characteristics are prevented from degrading owing to the parasitic capacitance of the internal data bus and the potential is not held at some intermediate level, reducing the power consumption.
