The invention relates to a method for reducing the interfering influence, particularly of near reflections during the evaluation of the total phase deviation, preferably during rangefinding by microwaves, in accordance with the principle of frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar. For this purpose, in each case two values, adjacent in frequency, of the transfer function of a range measuring system are vectorially subtracted and the phase differences between the difference vectors obtained are added together over the frequency within the bandwidth used for the analysis. The total phase deviation thus obtained is a measure of the distance of the main reflector which, in comparison with the total phase deviation obtained directly without forming a difference, is falsified by interference reflections only to a greatly reduced extent. <IMAGE>
