A remote-control device for carrying out surface work has a slide (3) which is mounted on a guide part, e.g. a wire cable (2), and runs along the latter. The slide (3) has a driven working head (e.g. a spraying head 13) which can be adapted to different tasks by exchanging modular tools, for example for spray coats, profile examinations or shot blasting. The device permits precision surface work in locations inaccessible or dangerous to man to be carried out. <IMAGE>
