The torsional damper is fitted in automotive clutch plates of the type having two co-axial parts mounted so that one part can rotate relative to the other within a predetermined angular displacement. Multiple tangentially oriented coil springs link the two co-axial parts. The coil springs are mounted in specially provided slots machined in one of the two parts of the clutch assembly. The coil springs each have an elastic piece mounted inside the coil and following the circumferential orientation of the spring. The elastic piece is inserted between the edges of the slot provided for the spring, and provides damping for the relative motion between the hub and the friction surface of the clutch plate.
