PURPOSE:To facilitate the detection of a synchronous byte, by selecting a combination of >=2 data words which are easy to discriminate from a gap pattern and at the same time have a byte length and then recording the combination as a synchronous byte after converting it into a code word. CONSTITUTION:The output of a gap pattern producing circuit 2 is fetched into a writing register 4 and converted into a serial form with each byte through a serial-parallel converting register 5. A data word is converted into a code word by a data-code word converting register 6, and a gap pattern is written to a disk medium. After writing a gap pattern of a prescribed length, a synchronous byte obtained by combining data words is fetched to the register 4 from a synchronous byte producing circuit 3. Then plural data bytes transferred from a processor are fetched to the register 4 and converted into code words to be written into a disk medium 10. In such a way, a fixed pattern is always obtained for synchronous bytes which are recorded. This can facilitate the detection of a synchronous byte on a recording medium. |
