PURPOSE:To make it possible to continue printing work even if one of cleaning means is made impossible of use, in an ink jet printer, by respectively mounting plural cleaning means for cleaning the nozzles of recording heads with respect to each recording heads. CONSTITUTION:Head cleaning mechanisms 70 being a restoring system are provided to both left and right ends in the main scanning direction of a carriage 6 while each head cleaner 31 is brought into contact with each nozzle of each recording head 7 and upwardly slide to carry out cleaning to eliminate the clogging theeof. As mentioned above, because plural head cleaning mechanisms 70 are provided, even if one of them is made impossible of use, cleaning work can be continued and, during this time, the exchange of a new cleaning head 31 can be carried out. In addition, because cleaning can be carried out by the head cleaner 31 positioned at a nearest place when clogging is generated, a working time can be shortened. Furthermore, by differentiating characteristics of both head cleaners 31, proper cleaning can be carried out corresponding to a clogging state. |
