FILTER FOR REMOVING NON-METALLIC IMPURITIES OF MOLTEN STEEL

PURPOSE:To provide a filter suitable for removing non-metallic impurities, especially, fine Al2O3 type impurities in molten steel, obtained by forming plural molten steel passing pores to a refractory material based on lime clinker. CONSTITUTION:Lime clinker alone or a mixture consisting of 50wt% or more lime clinker and the remainder dolomite clinker is ground to be subjected to the adjustment of a particle size and a non-aqueous binder such as oil or resin is added to the obtained particulate material to be kneaded therewith while the obtained kneaded mixture is cast into an appropriate shape to form a molded object which is in turn baked to obtain a filter. The size of a molten steel passing pore is about 5-100mm.phi while the cross area of a void through which molten steel is pref. about 20% or more on the basis of the cross area of the filter. In addition, by containing 1-20% CaCl2 to the above mentioned filter material, the adsorbing power of Al2O3 in molten steel can be enhanced.
