PURPOSE:To obtain a weld zone which is uniform in various mechanical and physical properties without changing the structural continuity of a coil spring having continuous turns, by cutting both terminals of said spring in the plane inclusive of the central axial line and butt welding the same. CONSTITUTION:End parts 1a, 1b of a coil spring are moved in proximity on a common central axial line (c) so that the cut end faces 8, 9 of terminal turns 6, 7 face each other apart at a slight spacing on the circumference of the coil spring with fixing jigs 2, 3 held in tight contact therewith through flat plates 12, 13 for insulation without overlapping of the turns 6, 7 on each other. Thereafter, the fixing jigs 2, 3 on one side are fixed and fixing jigs 4, 5 on the other are rotated around the line (c). The terminal turn 7 in the end part 1b is rotated in the plates 12, 13 and the end faces 8, 9 are butted to each other. Electricity is then conducted to the fixing jigs and the butted parts are subjected to resistance welding. |
