PURPOSE:To decrease rolling load, to increase rolling reduction and to improve rolling efficiency by driving two work rolls differing in diameter with a gear device at the same number of revolutions and making the changing with the other dissimilar diameter roll free within the range of rolling conditions. CONSTITUTION:Work rolls 1, 2 differing in diameter from each other are provided freely changeably and are connected to gears 9, 10 of the same outside diameter which are meshed with each other, by means of spindles 4, 5. An electric motor 8 connected to the shaft of one gear 10 is driven to rotate the rolls 1, 2 at a prescribed peripheral speed ratio. The transmission torque of such driving system is measured with torque meters 6, 7, and the work rolls 1, 2 are changed with the other work rolls having different diameters within the range where the peripheral speed ratio of said rolls does not exceed the thickness ratio between the inlet side and the outside side, then rolling is accomplished. The rolling load is decreased by such mechanism, and the effect of decreasing the abrasion wear of the rolls, decreasing the crown rate of the plate, and improving the accuracy of the plate thickness is obtained. |
