PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for 5-substituted oxazole in more safely in a high yield since in the method for 5-substituted oxazole production by reacting an aldehyde with p-tolylsulfonyl methylisocyanide (TosMIC) in the presence of a base, both the aldehyde and TosMIC being raw materials are unstable under a basic condition, decomposition of these raw materials is unavoidable with the progress of the reaction, consequently, development of an industrially satisfactory method for providing a higher reaction yield is desired. SOLUTION: Solutions of the aldehyde and p-tolylsulfonyl methylisocyanide are added to a base or a solution containing a base and reacted. In more detail, N-(p-tolylsulfonylmethyl)formamide is reacted with phosgene and a tertiary amine to give p-tolylsulfonyl methylisocyanide, which is neither isolated nor purified. The solution of p-tolylsulfonyl methylisocyanide and the solution containing the aldehyde are added to the base or the solution containing the base and reacted.
