<p>A hose (20) having two or more plies (22, 26) and a sensing element (24) located between the plies. The hose is for use in carrying fluids having electromagnetic properties, such as oil, and fluid is not normally present between the plies of the hose. The sensing element (24) responds to the electromagnetic properties of fluid present between the plies as a result of rupture of an inner ply (22) of the hose. Sensitivity and compatibility with the fabric of the plies are enhanced by this invention which provides that the sensing element (24) is formed of carbon fibres.</p> |
