<p>PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of reconigition, by extracting the direction code, feature points including a terminal point, a branch point, a refraction point, etc. and the stroke of a contour line out of an input character pattern. CONSTITUTION:A direction code extracting means 9 extracts the direction code distribution of a contour line, i.e., the number of contour points having the same direction code for each split region of a character pattern stored in a pattern memory 8. A feature point extracting means 12 extracts the number of feature points lincluding a terminal point, a branch point, a refraction point, etc. for each split region of a thinned line pattern stored in a thinned line pattern memory 11. A stroke extracting means 13 extracts the strokes out of the thinned line pattern and obtains the direction, length and the position of the middle point of the stroke. A deciding means 14 obtains the resemblance between the direction code distribution, feature point distribution and the middle point distribution of the stroke and the standard character and then decides the name of an inut character.</p> |
