摘要 <p>Prodn. of multivalent meningococcal vaccine comprises first growing bacteria of serological gps. A, B and C on separate solid, protein-deficient nutrient media then eluting each of the microbial masses prod. with isotonic pH 7-7.6 NaCl soln. The culture suspension is neutralised, microbial residues removed and the culture liq. treated with acetone. The ppte. formed is washed, dried, with acetone then dissolved in 0.2M (at most) buffer of pH 7.6 and gel-filtered. The fraction of mol.wt. at least 0.1 million is isolated, treated with acetone, washed and the ppte. dried with acetone. The dry ppts. from each of the gps. A, B, and C are combined under sterile conditions at wt. ratio 14:13:13. The pref. microbial strains used are Neisseria meningitidis A-208; B-13090, B-23247 or B-C5 and C-0638. The vaccine is effective against all serotypes, is only weakly reactogenic and can be administered to adults and children. The use of solid culture media simplifies processing since under these conditions bacteria develop which are only weakly toxic and which have weak cell walls which can be dissolved without use of detergent.</p>
