To preserve feedstuffs and/or crops, in particular for cattle, at least some of the product is subjected to a high frequency radiation. By this means, the product is dried in a short time with savings in energy and costs. The nutrient losses are small. In addition, protection of protein is achieved, which suits the physiology of digestion of the ruminant. The apparatus for carrying out the process is provided with high frequency sources of radiation, in the radiation field of which is situated the storage area for the product. The apparatus has a simple construction and requires only a small amount of installation space.
