PURPOSE:To obtain a multicolor printer capable of quickly switching color portions by using a system in which a ribbon with a plurally and widthwise divided parallel color arrangement is run at nearly right angle to the printing line and switching of colors is made by horizontal rotation of a ribbon case along the printing line. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon 1 is exposed between the openings 49 and 50 of a cassette 2, guided to the aperture between a ribbon guide 7 and a ribbon mask 6, and run from above to below in parallel with the printing face on a recording medium but nearly orthogonally to the printing line. A cam groove is carved such that a cassette base 3 and a cassette 2 are stepwise turned at a given angle around a guide post 16 as the center through a roller 25 as a follower as a stepping motor 18 turns. For selecting a desired color among colors arranged in parallel on the ribbon 1, the stepping motor 18 is turned by as much as step numbers corresponding to the color portions. |
