Provided is a semi-transmissive and reflective liquid crystal display device having a high reflection efficiency and a high image quality. The liquid crystal display device is provided with a reflecting area, and the reflection area is provided with an insulating layer, a semiconductor layer and a reflecting layer which are formed on a metal layer having a plurality of recessed sections. Between the recessed sections of the metal layer, a plurality of protruding sections, each of which has a bottom surface, a top surface and an inclined surface, are formed. When the width of each bottom surface of the protruding sections is expressed as (a), a thickness between the bottom surface and the top surface as (x), an inclination angle of the inclined surface to the bottom surface as (?), and a total thickness of the insulating layer, the semiconductor layer and the reflecting layer as (y), at least one bottom surface width (a) of the protruding sections of the metal layer satisfies the inequality of a=2(x+y)/tan?.
