In a curler for hairstyling a transverse slide (10) is guided so as to be displaceable transversely to the longitudinal axis of the curler in a handle head (9) for turning a curling rod, a jacket sleeve (6) and/or a curling mandrel (5). One side edge (16) of a recess (12) in the transverse slide has inwardly directed teeth (17) which engage in a toothed part-ring (15) on the part of the curler to be driven in order thereby to rotate the part to be turned, such as the curling rod, jacket sleeve and/or curling mandrel, for example for raising or laying down the curling teeth mounted on the curling mandrel. <IMAGE>
