PURPOSE:To form a uniform cuprous oxide coating on the wire surface by a method wherein the wire having a surface comprising copper or a copper alloy is heated to a specific temp. in flame while running and immersed into water with a specific temp. or less before the temp. of said wire is lowered to a specific temp. or less. CONSTITUTION:This treatment is especially effective to a composite wire wherein the surface thereof is copper or a copper alloy and the core material thereof is an iron-nickel alloy and, especially copper is coated on an alloy core material in an amount of 10-30% in the wt. ratio. This wire is withdrawn from a supply stand 2 and heated to 950 deg.C or above by a burner 3. Before the temp. of said wire is lowered to 900 deg.C or less, the wire is rapidly quenched by immersing in a cooling tank 5 continuously. The temp. of the cooling water is 40 deg.C or less, pref., 10-20 deg.C. At this time, by controlling a passing time of said wire between the burner 3 and the water tank 5, the thickness of the cuprous oxide coating on the surface thereof is controlled. |
