PURPOSE:To make a read even when there is discontinuance due to a flaw by regarding the density of the longest part of a tape whose recording density is recognized by measuring magnetic recording density, and reading following data blocks. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic tape device 1 is started, read data 11 is detected by a signal detection part 4 and sent to a recording density recognition part 6. The recognition part 6 once recognizing the recording density (a) from a recording density mark ID sends a signal 9 to a counter A corresponding to the density (a) to place it in an enable state. When a flaw part is read, the counter A stops. At this time, the counter A indicates a value corresponds to the length l1 of the tape whose density is read. Then, a density readable section and an unreadable section are repeated and when recording density values (b) and (c) are recognized, an enable signal 9 is inputted to counters B and C, which count up. The contents of counters A-C are checked by the recording density recognition part 6 and the recording density recognized over the longest tape section is employed. Thus, the medium is read. |
