The foldable solar cell support includes two or more flat panels linked together by hinges, with solar cells mounted in modules on the interior surfaces of the panels. The solar cells together with their electrical connections are encased in a plastic material, reinforced with glass fibre in order to form rigid and free standing modules. The panels are provided with edges such that when they fold up, a box is formed to surround the panels. Wires from adjacent panels are joined by passing longitudinally through hollow portions of the hinges which join them together. The wires then turn at right angles from the hinge on to each of the folding panels.
