PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetic recording medium having excellent magnetic characteristics, travelling property and abrasion resistance by mixing acicular Fe powder containing Fe3N phase of a nitride with a high molecular binder and applying the mixture onto a nonmagnetic substrate. CONSTITUTION:Acicular alpha-Fe powder obtained by reducing acicular goethite is arranged into a quartz core pipe, and H2 gas is fed into the core pipe at the flow rate of 3l/min while NH3 gas is fed in at the flow rate of 3l/min and both gases are nitrified. Magnetic paints having the following composition are prepared by the acicular magnetic powder treated in this manner. 70pts.wt. magnetic powder, a 10pts.wt. vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer (the binder) and 250pts.wt. methyl ketone (a solvent) are kneaded sufficiently, the mixture is applied onto the nonmagnetic substrate consisting of a olyethylene terephthalate film so that thickness after drying reaches 2-4mum, and the magnetic recording medium is obtained. The magnetic recording medium acquired in this manner does not degrade magnetic characteristics, and also has excellent durability. |
