PURPOSE:To remove the surface skin of an aluminum billet uniformly by irradiating the part of the surface skin formed of an oxidized film with a laser beam thereby controlling the depth for removing the surface skin with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum billet 5 is conveyed by means of a roll table 7 and is lifted by means of a vertically moving table 9 connected to an air cylinder 8. The billet 5 is carried by a pair of rolls 11, 12 and is rotated by means of one roll 12. A laser generating source 1 is connected cooperatively with a shaft 15 of a motor 13 or a speed reducer attached thereto and moves rightward in synchronization with the rotation of the roll 12, thereby irradiating the entire outside circumference of the billet 5 with a laser beam 16. A prescribed thin surface skin part is removed uniformly without a control mechanism for maintaining the spacing between the source 1 and the surface of the billet 5 constant. |
